> A free library of build-tested blueprints for the internal tools small teams can now build with AI instead of renting per seat.

## What this is

Personal Software Factory is a free library of blueprints for internal business tools, such as a CRM, an approval workflow or a time-off tracker, that a small team can build with an AI app builder (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Lovable, Replit or Type) instead of paying per seat for a SaaS product.

Each blueprint is one Markdown file. It starts from a real problem in one sentence, describes what the paid product does and what the blueprint deliberately leaves out, and then specifies the tool precisely enough to build: roles, data model, business rules with worked examples, screens, notifications, edge cases and seed data. The build plan splits the work into phases, each with a prompt to send to your AI builder and acceptance checks to run before moving on.

## Why it exists

Most business software is built for thousands of companies at once. Every team ends up adjusting its process to fit the tool and paying per seat for features it never uses. That trade-off made sense when custom software took months to build.

With AI app builders, a small internal tool can be built in an afternoon. The hard part has moved: it is no longer writing the code, it is knowing exactly what to build. A one-line prompt produces a convincing demo that falls apart on the first real edge case. A spec with exact rules and checks produces a tool a team can rely on. That spec is what this site publishes.

## How blueprints are made

1. **Start from the work.** Each blueprint begins with one sentence from the person who has the problem, such as "Purchase requests get lost in Slack, and nobody knows who approved what."
2. **Research the real product.** We read the vendor's own product pages, pricing and help center, and record what we verified and when. Prices on this site are only those we saw on the vendor's own pages, with the date checked.
3. **Write the spec.** Keep the part a small team actually uses, leave out the rest on purpose, and say what was left out so readers can decide when to buy instead.
4. **Build it from the spec.** An AI builder follows the prompts in order and every acceptance check is verified in a real browser. Gaps the build exposes are fixed in the spec. See [How we test](/how-we-test).

## Independence

Personal Software Factory is independent. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any vendor named on the site. Product names are trademarks of their owners and are used only to describe what each blueprint is an alternative to. There are no affiliate links.

## Using the blueprints

Blueprints are free to copy, adapt and build from for your own team. Every blueprint page links to its Markdown file, and the whole library is available as plain text at [/llms-full.txt](/llms-full.txt) for AI assistants.
