Which AI app builder can run your internal tool? Lovable, Bolt, Replit, v0, Claude Code and Cursor compared
Nearly every internal tool needs a database, sign-in, a scheduled job and email. Here is what our blueprints need from a builder, and what Lovable, Bolt, Replit, v0, Claude Code and Cursor provide for each, from their own pages in October 2026.
The short answer
Choose a builder for what your tool has to do after the first demo: keep data in a real database, let in only your team, run reminders on a schedule and send email. Those are the features that decide whether an internal tool survives its first month.
On their own pages in October 2026, Lovable documents all four as built-in features (email on paid plans). Replit documents a database, sign-in and scheduled runs, with email through connectors such as Resend. Bolt documents a database, sign-in, file storage and email through Resend, but none of the Bolt pages we read mention scheduled jobs. v0 deploys to Vercel and adds a database, scheduled jobs and file storage through Vercel and its integrations; its docs don't describe sending email. Claude Code and Cursor write the code, and the database, sign-in, jobs and hosting come from wherever you deploy it.
Our own build tests use Claude, so this guide compares what each vendor documents, not how well each one builds.
What an internal tool needs from a builder
We went through every blueprint on this site and recorded what it needs from the platform it runs on, beyond the code itself.
Every one of our 35 blueprints needs a database and sign-in. 32 also need a scheduled job and 34 send email. 15 have pages or links for people without a staff account, 7 store uploaded files, 2 receive email or webhooks and 2 post to Slack.
| Capability | What it is for | Blueprints | Which |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scheduled job | Code that runs on a timer (hourly or daily) for reminders, digests, escalations, expiry and retention. | 32 of 35 | All except Capacity Planner, Commission Calculator and Feature Requests |
| Sending email | Sending notification emails, written to an outbox first so they can be checked without a provider. | 34 of 35 | All except Commission Calculator |
| File storage | Uploading files (receipts, PDFs, photos, images) and storing them privately. | 7 of 35 | Contract Tracker, Document Requests, Expense Reports, Inspections, Inventory Tracker, Maintenance Requests, Training Manual |
| Links without a staff sign-in | Pages or links used by people without a staff account: clients, candidates, customers, visitors, a shared tablet or a calendar app. | 15 of 35 | Bug Tracker, Client Onboarding Tracker, Document Requests, Feature Requests, Help Desk, Hiring Pipeline, Link Shortener, Maintenance Requests, NPS Surveys, Quote Builder, Room Booking, Status Page, Testimonial Wall, Time-Off Tracker, Visitor Sign-In |
| Receiving email or webhooks | An endpoint that receives email or webhook calls from other services. | 2 of 35 | Customer Feedback Inbox, Help Desk |
| Slack | Posting to Slack, or a Slack app with buttons. | 2 of 35 | Approval Workflow, Visitor Sign-In |
Two of these matter more than they look:
- Scheduled jobs. Reminders, daily digests, escalations, expiry dates and data retention all run on a timer. A builder that can't run code on a schedule leaves you adding a separate cron service, or the reminders never go out.
- Sign-in limited to your team. Every blueprint asks the builder to check the signed-in email against your list of people, so anyone you haven't added sees "Ask an admin to add you." That check lives in your app's code, so it works on any platform. The access features below add a second layer by hiding the whole app from everyone outside your team.
What each builder provides (October 2026)
Each entry comes from the vendor's own docs or pricing page, checked in October 2026. "Not stated" means we did not find it on the vendor's pages, not that the feature is missing.

Builder by builder
Lovable
Lovable hosts the app and includes a backend called Lovable Cloud, built on Supabase, "with a database, storage, authentication, realtime, and functions" (docs.lovable.dev/features/cloud). Google sign-in is "managed by Lovable with no setup" (docs.lovable.dev/features/authentication). Scheduled work runs as Jobs: "scheduled background tasks, used when your app needs to perform recurring work", and "each run consumes Cloud usage" (docs.lovable.dev/features/jobs). Email is built in on paid plans, with 50,000 transactional emails a month per paid workspace, sent from a domain you own (docs.lovable.dev/features/custom-emails).
To keep the whole app private to your team, Business ($50 a month) can publish to "Workspace", which only logged-in workspace members can visit; Free and Pro can publish "Invite only" (docs.lovable.dev/features/publish). Plans are "priced by the credits they include, not by seats" (lovable.dev/pricing). Two-way GitHub sync is available on all plans (docs.lovable.dev/integrations/github).
For our blueprints: everything they need is documented as built in, so most can be built without outside services.
Bolt
Bolt "creates a database automatically if your project needs one" and includes file storage (support.bolt.new/bolt-cloud/database, /database/file-storage). Google sign-in needs your own Google client ID (support.bolt.new/bolt-cloud/database/authentication). A private published site can be opened by anyone with an address at a trusted domain: "if you enter exampleco.com, any user whose address ends in @exampleco.com can see your site." Private sites need a paid plan, and "sites with a custom domain can only be published publicly" (support.bolt.new/bolt-cloud/hosting/publish).
Email goes through Resend: you add your own Resend API key, and the project must be published with a custom domain (support.bolt.new/bolt-cloud/database/send-emails). We found no mention of scheduled jobs on Bolt's Cloud, database, server function or FAQ pages.
For our blueprints: nearly all of them need a scheduled job, so plan how reminders and digests will run (for example an outside cron service calling a protected endpoint) before you start.
Replit
Replit Agent builds apps with "managed PostgreSQL ... built into every Replit App" (docs.replit.com/features/integrations/overview). Sign-in is built in two ways: with Replit Auth, "they are creating or using an existing Replit account"; Clerk Auth gives the app its own accounts with Google and other providers (docs.replit.com/features/auth-and-identity). Apps can be published "Workspace only" or "Invite only" (docs.replit.com/features/publishing/private-deployments); one Replit page says access controls are available only on Pro and Enterprise.
Scheduled Deployments "run a command on a schedule in your app's environment", set with a cron expression, and "you pay for the duration of each run" (docs.replit.com/features/publishing/deployment-types). Email goes through connectors such as Resend and SendGrid, which need the Core plan (docs.replit.com/billing/plans/starter-plan). Core includes up to 5 builders, with no per-user fees on Pro (docs.replit.com/billing/plans).
For our blueprints: the scheduled job runs as a separate Scheduled Deployment, so point it at the same database as the app.
v0
v0 "deploys projects to Vercel" (v0.app/docs/deployments). Databases come from one-click integrations with Upstash, Neon and Supabase, each of which "provisions a new user account on that service" (v0.app/docs/databases). Scheduled jobs use Vercel Cron Jobs, which are "available on all plans", but "Hobby accounts are limited to cron jobs that run once per day" (vercel.com/docs/cron-jobs). Vercel Authentication can restrict a deployment to logged-in members of your Vercel team on any plan.
Two things to check before you build a company tool on v0: Vercel's free Hobby plan is for "non-commercial, personal use only" (vercel.com/docs/plans/hobby), and v0's docs don't describe sending email, so you will connect a provider yourself with an API key.
For our blueprints: hourly jobs need a paid Vercel plan, and email needs a provider such as Resend.
Claude Code
Claude Code is "an AI-powered coding assistant" that "works directly with git" (code.claude.com/docs/en/overview). It writes the app; the database, sign-in, scheduled jobs, email and hosting come from whatever platform you deploy to. It is included in Claude Pro, $20 a month or $17 a month billed yearly; the free Claude plan doesn't include it (claude.com/pricing).
This is what our build tests use: Claude follows each blueprint's phase prompts and we run every acceptance check in a browser. See How we test.
Cursor
Cursor is a code editor with an AI assistant, so, like Claude Code, it leaves hosting and services to your stack. Cursor's own blog says it "has officially been acquired by SpaceX" (cursor.com/blog/joining-spacex), and new customers now buy it through "The X Subscription, one subscription for Grok, Cursor, and X" (cursor.com/help/account-and-billing/pricing). The cheapest paid plan, Plus at $8 a month, runs Grok models only and leaves out cloud agents and automations; the full feature set starts at Premium, $30 a month (same page).
How to choose
- If you want one product for everything, check that it documents a database, sign-in, scheduled jobs and email. In October 2026 Lovable documents all four; Replit documents all four with email through a connector.
- If your tool sends reminders or digests (nearly all of our blueprints do), confirm how scheduled code runs before you start. Bolt's pages don't mention it, and v0 depends on Vercel's plan.
- If only your company should see the app, use the platform's team-only access as well as the sign-in check in your app: Lovable Business, Bolt's trusted domain, Replit's private publishing or Vercel Authentication.
- If clients, candidates or visitors use part of the app without an account, make sure those pages can be public while the rest stays private. A whole-app access setting can block them.
- If you want to keep the code, all six let you export it or sync it to GitHub.
- If you already have a host, Claude Code or Cursor gives you the code to deploy wherever you like.
Whichever you choose, paste the whole blueprint as context, send one phase prompt at a time and run the acceptance checks after each phase. The checks tell you whether your builder read the spec the way it was meant. See How to build an internal tool with AI.
What this guide does not cover
- How well each builder builds. We only build-test with Claude. A different builder may read the same spec differently.
- Usage costs beyond the plan price. Credits, tokens, per-run charges and hosting usage vary with how much you build and how much the app is used.
- Every plan detail. Plans change often. Check the vendor's pricing page before you buy.
Questions people ask
Can Lovable run scheduled jobs?
Yes. Lovable Cloud has Jobs, "scheduled background tasks, used when your app needs to perform recurring work", created by asking in the project chat or through SQL. Each run uses Cloud usage from your credits (docs.lovable.dev/features/jobs, October 2026).
Which AI app builders can limit an app to my company?
Bolt can limit a private site to everyone with an address at your domain, on paid plans and not on a custom domain. Lovable's Business plan can publish to logged-in workspace members only. Replit can publish "Workspace only" or "Invite only". Vercel Authentication, used by v0, limits a deployment to your Vercel team. In every case, also have the app check the signed-in email against your list of people.
Do I need Supabase to build an internal tool with AI?
Not necessarily. Lovable Cloud is built on Supabase but managed for you, Bolt and Replit include their own PostgreSQL databases, and v0 offers Supabase as one of several one-click integrations alongside Neon and Upstash.
What does it cost to build an internal tool with an AI builder?
The cheapest paid plans in October 2026 ran from $8 a month (Cursor Plus, Grok models only) to $30 per user a month (v0 Plus), with Lovable Pro and Bolt Pro at $25 and Replit Core at $20. Lovable and Replit don't charge per seat; v0 and Bolt Teams do. Add hosting and email where the builder doesn't include them, and compare that with what the SaaS tool costs your team per seat: see what 34 SaaS tools cost a 10-person team.
What changed with Cursor in 2026?
Cursor's blog says Cursor was acquired by SpaceX in August 2026. New customers now buy it through The X Subscription, which bundles Grok, Cursor and X. The cheapest paid plan, Plus at $8 a month, runs Grok models only; the full feature set starts at Premium, $30 a month (cursor.com, October 2026).
